Over 50 Years of our family giving you more of what you go to sailing school for!SM
New York Sailing Center is an ASA Certification Facility (American Sailing Association certified sailing school) with an on-site Sailing Club. We teach from Basic to Bareboat and beyond, and we take you there too on our instructional sailing vacations! We are also specialists in on-water news, film, video and photo shoots, facilitating both hand-held and aerial drone equipment. Our Director, Captain Card, authored two textbooks on sailing and navigation and continues a family tradition of teaching students how to sail a boat, and to cruise and navigate, going back over 50 years.

My father founded a sailing school in 1968 and sold it in the late 80’s. In 1997, a few years after he passed away, I started my own sailing school with a fresh perspective. And, in the interim, we were advisors to the former family business and then another new school.
That’s unique in the industry, but then again, a lot of what we do is different or even unique. Often, it’s a case of the difference in the details. But those details make for consistently high scores in the confidential ASA Student Survey: we tend to range from 3.50 to 4.00 (usually closer to 4) for both school and instructor ratings. A score of 4 is perfect, and we achieve that from time to time.
We take teaching – and your learning – very seriously. However, there’s no reason we can’t have fun at the same time. Those of you armed with just enough knowledge to be dangerous will get the reference in the page title above and will already get that we’re fun. If you’re a newcomer, trust us on this or just ask us about “Ready? About.”
The perspective and efficiency we bring to instruction allows both. You’re going to have fun. And, you’re going to learn to sail (or cruise, or navigate). Explore our site to learn why.
